The best games in the App Store aren’t always the heart-stopping thrill rides or zombie-killing bloodbaths that used to be the mainstay of video games. Casual gamers have flocked to iOS devices like the iPhone and iPod touch changing, in many ways, what makes a game rise to the top of the charts. Many of the best games today feature adorable characters, are easy to learn but hard to master, enjoyable for all ages and, perhaps most importantly, able to be played for a few minutes at a time. (In our experience, you know a game is great when it can be played in two minutes but you continue playing for two hours!)
Here are best Games for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad which has received the coveted “Editor’s Pick” title. Now enjoy this list of the best iPhone, iTouch and iPad games culled from years of App Store experience and countless hours of gameplay!
Best Games for iPad, iPhone, iPod
1. MONSTER HUNTER FREEDOM UNITE for iOS [$14.99] (View in iTunes)
Rated: 5 Stars
Capcom’s iOS games present a truly insane roll of the dice.
2. Monsters Ate My Birthday Cake [$4.99] (View in iTunes)
Rated: 5 Stars
Monsters Ate My Birthday Cake is a puzzle game that’s bright & colorful, but decidedly not just for kids.
3. Hellraid: The Escape [$2.99] (View in iTunes)
Rated: 4.5 Stars
From the makers of Techland, it’s a dark fantasy co-op action title placing players in the role of repelling a demonic invasion.
4. OTTTD [$2.99] (View in iTunes)
Rated: 4.5 Stars
It gives a New Meaning to the Term “Guts and Glory”. With an impressive melding of traditional TD and action-RPG elements, all of my expectations as to what it had to offer were happily exceeded.
5. The Wolf Among Us [$4.99] (View in iTunes)
Rated: 4.5 Stars
The first thing that happens in Telltale Games’ The Wolf Among Us is that Sheriff Bigby Wolf talks to a toad in a cardigan. The second thing, at least for me, was that he gets beaten to death (twice).
6. Civil War: 1864 [$4.99]
Rated: 4 Stars
After making a big return to World War 2 with the recent Tank Battle: East Front series and revisiting ancient warfare with Ancient Battle: Alexander, it’s making another return to the American Civil War, last visited in Civil War: 1862 late last year.
7. LEGO ® Marvel ™ Super Heroes: Universe in Peril [$4.99]
Rated: 4 Stars $4.99
LEGO The Lord of the Rings, as a shared release with the other major handheld game systems, was cut down from the console versions in many respects, offering a few decent-sized hubs but taking out the interesting RPG elements.
8. DUNGEONy [$1.99]
Rated: 3.5 Stars
DUNGEONy is a curious game because while it’s a turn-based roguelike, and certainly those are not rare, but it’s more of a puzzle game set around roguelike mechanics than an actual roguelike.
9. Zombie Puzzle Panic [Free]
Rated: 3 Stars
If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then I think Noodlecake and Massive Damage have just written a crown of sonnets to Candy Crush Saga publisher King.
10. Sonic Jump Fever [Free]
Rated: 2 Stars
The Sonic The Hedgehog franchise has a tough line to walk. It’s still SEGA’s most reliable means of generating sales, and these days, that’s more important for that company than ever before.
